Firespec were delighted to be involved in the new Westfield development “Bradford Broadway” which when completed was the largest UK retail centre to launch in 2015. The development includes 570,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space, representing more than 70 shops. The £260 million development involved a 6,600 tonne steel structure, around 100,000m2 of which was protected with intumescent coatings to a variety of fire ratings. Our role was to independently verify that the correct coating thicknesses had been achieved, thereby meeting the structural fire protection requirements in the different zones. With Firespec’s involvement and sub-contractor fire integrity’s commitment to achieving the correct thickness of intumescent, the shopping centre is now a safe environment to shop in.
